Thankfully Northern Cyprus has a traffic consisting of a well-developed traffic system and drivers who respect others and provide a smooth traffic environment.

Traffic Features

For those planning to explore Cyprus by car, it’s imperative to be aware that vehicles drive on the left side of the road, similar to countries like England, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, and India. Renting a car is a straightforward process; with an international driving license, you can have your vehicle arranged in just about half an hour. Rentals are available right at the airport, or you can conveniently book online before your trip.

Traffic in Cyprus is generally light, allowing for pleasant drives across the island. Whether you’re traveling from the west to the east, just remember to keep in mind that driving is on the left side. It’s advisable to practice beforehand to ease your transition.

When I drive the car here in Cyprus, it feels like there are no rules. I actually love it, but you have to think for everyone. And you always need to be concentrated. Especially at the roundabouts. Every time I drive into a roundabout it feels like a chess game. It’s the weirdest construction ever. Normally there is just one line. But in Cyprus we have two, three, sometimes even four lines in a roundabout. And it feels like no one knows where to drive.
